Becoming a mom can feel challenging and stressful. Most women describe it as one of the biggest transitions that they experience as a woman, and it isn’t always easy.
Each day can be filled with a range of emotions which feel hard to cope with. For some, it can be an extremely overwhelming time. Many women will identify as “just not feeling like themselves.”
It is common to feel unprepared and unaware of what to expect after having a baby. Feelings of overwhelming love and bliss can come along with anxiety and stress and isolation.
While navigating this new experience, you may also have intrusive thoughts that are scary or distressing. At times, it can feel hard to cope and manage it all.
It is not your fault that you are feeling like this and with help you can feel well again. Seeking care from a specialist can lead to you feeling better faster.
In addition to the physical and emotional strain that can happen as a result of becoming a mom, your identity is suddenly shifted and it is hard to imagine ever regaining a sense of who you were before.
Adjusting to life with a new baby also means that you are sleep deprived and encountering sheer exhaustion, which can make your symptoms feel worse.
It can help to talk about the stress that you may be feeling during the process of transitioning from woman to mother. Counseling can identify the emotions that are causing you distress and improve your ability to manage them.
