When we hear the term Postpartum Depression, we automatically think that it can only affect Women. Paternal Postpartum Depression is very real, and often times, it goes unnoticed and unrecognized. The primary focus after having a baby is usually on Mom and Baby and all of the support goes towards them. Typically Dads feel that their new primary role is caretaker, and there isn’t a lot of room to figure out how they feel after birth.
Many Dads are experiencing adjustment issues, depression and/or anxiety surrounding the birth of their new child, however don’t share how they are feeling. It is just as important for new dads to receive help and support when becoming a new parent so they can be a healthy partner and parent.
